Description
Rebaudioside A (CAS 58543-16-1), also known as Reb-A 97, Rebiana, Glycoside A3, and Glycoside X, is a steviol glycoside extracted and purified from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana. It carries no E-number under EU regulations but is permitted as a food additive under Regulation (EU) No 1131/2011 governing steviol glycosides.
In food and beverage formulation, Rebaudioside A functions as a high-intensity sweetener, delivering sweetness estimated at 200-400 times that of sucrose by binding selectively to sweet taste receptors without contributing calories. It is used in sugar-reduced soft drinks, dairy alternatives, and functional nutrition products where caloric reduction is a formulation target.
Rebaudioside A is available in high-purity grades including Reb-A 97, meeting FCC and JECFA specifications. It is supplied as a white to off-white powder in food-grade packaging.
