Retinyl propionate

In cosmetic formulations, retinyl propionate functions as a retinoid precursor that undergoes enzymatic hydrolysis in skin tissue to release active retinol, delivering vitamin A activity with reduced irritation compared to retinol itself. In pharmaceutical preparations, it serves as an antioxidant stabilizer, protecting lipid-based systems against oxidative degradation during storage.
