Description

Saccharin sodium, also known as sodium saccharin or Crystallose (trade names include Cristallose and Kristallose), is the sodium salt form of saccharin, a synthetic non-nutritive sweetener approximately 500 times sweeter than sucrose. It carries no E-number designation in the EU under its sodium salt form and is identified by CAS 128-44-9.

In food and beverage formulation, saccharin sodium delivers intense sweetness at very low concentrations, reducing caloric load without fermentable sugars. In oral care and pharmaceutical preparations, it masks bitter active ingredients and contributes antimicrobial activity, inhibiting microbial growth in aqueous systems. Personal care formulators use it as both a flavoring agent and a mild preservative aid in rinse-off products.

Saccharin sodium is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade forms, with compliance to FCC and Ph.Eur. monographs depending on application. It is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Typical packaging formats include 25 kg bags or drums suited to industrial procurement volumes.
