Saccharose acetate isobutyrate

Saccharose acetate isobutyrate, commonly abbreviated as SAIB, is a mixed ester of sucrose with acetic and isobutyric acids. It carries no E-number designation and is commercially available under trade names including SAIB-SG and SAIB FG, with grades such as SAIB-90 and SAIB-100 reflecting varying ester compositions.

In beverage formulations, SAIB functions as a weighting agent for flavour oil emulsions, increasing the density of the oil phase to prevent separation and creaming in finished drinks. In personal care products, its high viscosity and film-forming behaviour make it effective as a carrier and rheology modifier in nail lacquers and hair fixatives, where it controls flow and improves adhesion.

SAIB is supplied in food-grade and cosmetic-grade forms compliant with FCC specifications and relevant REACH registration requirements. It is typically offered as a viscous liquid in drum or IBC packaging, with grade selection determined by purity and intended application.
