Description

Sarcosine Sodium Salt (CAS 4316-73-8), also known as Sodium Sarcosinate or Sodium N-methylglycinate, is the sodium salt form of sarcosine, a naturally occurring amino acid derivative. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially supplied as a colorless to light yellow aqueous liquid.

In personal care formulations, Sodium Sarcosinate functions as a skin and hair conditioner by binding to keratin surfaces and improving moisture retention through its humectant action. It also acts as a chelating agent, sequestering metal ions that would otherwise destabilize formulations, and serves as a pH buffer to maintain target ranges in cosmetic and food-grade systems.

This material is available in liquid grade suitable for direct incorporation into aqueous systems and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm supplier documentation for cosmetic compliance under EC Regulation 1223/2009 and food-contact suitability where applicable.
