Description

Sclareolide (CAS 564-20-5, EC 209-269-0) is a naturally derived bicyclic lactone obtained from clary sage, commercially identified under FEMA 3794 and also known as Norambreinolide or Norambreinolid. It carries no assigned E-code and is supplied in neat form.

In fragrance formulation, sclareolide functions as an ambergris-type fixative, extending the longevity of base notes by reducing volatility of co-ingredients. In polymer and printing applications, it acts as a crosslinker, forming covalent bridges within resin matrices to improve film hardness and chemical resistance.

Sclareolide is available in cosmetic and flavour-grade qualities compliant with REACH registration requirements and FEMA-recognised status. It is relevant to IFRA guidelines for personal care applications. Procurement teams should confirm grade specification and packaging format directly, as these vary by production batch and supplier allocation.
