Description

Sodium 4-dodecylbenzenesulfonate (CAS 2211-98-5) is an anionic surfactant derived from the sulfonation of dodecylbenzene, commercially available under trade names including Igepal NA and Richonate 60B. It belongs to the linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) family and carries no assigned E-code.

In textile processing, it reduces interfacial tension between fiber surfaces and aqueous dye baths, improving dye penetration and leveling. In industrial cleaning formulations, the sulfonate head group adsorbs onto oily soils while the alkyl chain disrupts hydrophobic films, enabling effective degreasing of metal parts and hard surfaces. Water treatment applications use it as a dispersant to prevent scale deposition and particle agglomeration.

This material is supplied as a white to off-white solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area. Procurement teams should confirm supplier SDS documentation and purity specifications prior to sourcing, as grades vary between industrial and specialty formulation use.
