Description

Sodium Acetate Trihydrate (CAS 6131-90-4) is the hydrated sodium salt of acetic acid, also sold under the names sodium acetate 3H2O, hydrated sodium acetate, and acetic acid sodium salt. It carries no E-number designation but is recognised under EC number 612-115-9 and HS code 29152200.

In food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, it functions as a pH buffer by resisting acidic or alkaline shifts in solution, maintaining stable processing conditions across a defined pH range. In water treatment, it serves as a carbon source for biological denitrification, feeding microbial activity that reduces nitrate levels in effluent streams.

Sodium Acetate Trihydrate is available in food-grade, pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur., USP/FCC), and technical-grade forms, supplied as crystalline solid or powder. It is fully registered under REACH and commonly packaged in 25 kg bags or bulk quantities to suit industrial procurement requirements.
