Description

Sodium beta-alumina (CAS 11138-49-1, EC 215-100-1) is an inorganic alkali compound known under trade designations including Nalco 680, J 242, and Monofrax H. It belongs to the alumina family of materials and carries no assigned E-code, placing it outside food additive classifications.

In water treatment, sodium beta-alumina functions as a coagulant and flocculant, destabilising suspended colloidal particles to enable their removal. In pulp and paper and textile processing, it serves as a pH buffer, neutralising acidic process streams and maintaining stable alkaline conditions critical to consistent fibre treatment and dye uptake.

This material is supplied as a solid powder and is subject to REACH registration requirements for European procurement. Buyers should confirm applicable grade specifications and SDS documentation with the supplier prior to ordering, as technical grades may vary in alumina content and particle size distribution.
