Description
Sodium bifluoride (CAS 1333-83-1, EC 215-608-3), also known as sodium acid fluoride or sodium hydrogen fluoride, is an inorganic fluoride salt supplied as a white crystalline powder or pellet form. It carries no E-code designation and is not classified as a food additive. Its formula is NaHF2.
In water treatment, sodium bifluoride releases fluoride ions under controlled pH conditions, enabling precise fluoridation dosing without the handling risks of hydrofluoric acid. In metal surface treatment and pickling operations, it acts as a mild etchant and flux, removing oxide layers from aluminium and stainless steel prior to coating or finishing. It also serves as a pH buffer in textile dyeing baths.
Sodium bifluoride is available in technical and industrial grades, supplied in pellet or powder form, typically in 25 kg bags or bulk quantities. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Buyers should request a current Safety Data Sheet and confirm grade specification against their process requirements before procurement.
