Description
Sodium bisulfate (CAS 7681-38-1), also known as sodium hydrogen sulfate, bisulfate of soda, or niter cake, is an acidic salt produced by partial neutralisation of sulfuric acid with sodium chloride or sodium hydroxide. It carries no E-code designation and is registered under EC 231-665-7.
In water treatment, sodium bisulfate lowers pH by releasing hydrogen ions in solution, neutralising alkalinity without the handling hazards of liquid acids. In metal processing and cleaning applications, it acts as a descaling and degreasing agent, dissolving oxide layers and mineral deposits through controlled acidification. Food-grade material is used as an antimicrobial and pH-regulating additive in poultry processing and dry blended products.
Sodium bisulfate is available in food-grade (FCC-compliant) and technical-grade granular form, with supply subject to REACH registration requirements. Packaging typically ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk tote formats. Buyers should confirm grade suitability against applicable food safety or industrial process specifications.
