Description

Sodium caprylate (CAS 1984-06-1), also known as sodium octanoate, sodium octoate, and sodium n-octoate, is the sodium salt of caprylic acid. It carries no assigned E-code and is identified under EC 217-850-5 with the molecular formula C8H16O2.Na.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, sodium caprylate stabilises albumin solutions by binding to protein sites and preventing denaturation during heat treatment. In coatings and adhesive formulations, it functions as a catalyst for polyurethane and silicone cure reactions, accelerating crosslinking at controlled pH. Its amphiphilic structure also enables oil-in-water emulsification in personal care and food systems.

Sodium caprylate is available in powder form and supplied in grades meeting Ph.Eur. and FCC specifications. The substance is registered under REACH and compliant with EU cosmetic regulations. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, with documentation available upon request to support regulatory submissions.
