Description

Sodium chloride (CAS 7647-14-5), commonly known as common salt or table salt, is an inorganic mineral compound composed of sodium and chloride ions. It carries no E-number designation and is traded under its common name across food, pharmaceutical, and industrial markets.

In water treatment, sodium chloride regenerates ion exchange resins by displacing calcium and magnesium ions, restoring softening capacity. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it serves as a tonicity agent in saline formulations and as a buffering component in parenteral solutions. Food processors apply it as a preservation agent, where its water activity reduction inhibits microbial growth.

Sodium chloride is available in food-grade, FCC, and Ph.Eur.-compliant grades, as well as technical and water treatment grades in tablet or granular form. It is fully registered under REACH. Packaging typically ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk quantities, depending on application requirements.
