Description

Sodium diethyldithiocarbamate, commonly abbreviated as DEDC or SDEC and also known by the names Dithiocarb and Ditiocarb sodium, is the sodium salt of diethyldithiocarbamic acid, supplied in liquid form under CAS 148-18-5 (EC 205-710-6). It carries no assigned E-code and is classified within the salts and minerals category.

In water treatment, DEDC functions as a heavy metal precipitant, forming insoluble complexes with copper, lead, and nickel ions to enable their removal from effluent streams. In pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications, it serves as a chelating agent and reaction catalyst, and its antimicrobial activity makes it relevant as a preservation agent in formulated systems.

DEDC is available in liquid grade suitable for industrial procurement and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European market. Buyers should confirm grade specifications and compliance documentation, including safety data sheets, prior to procurement for regulated end-use sectors such as pharmaceuticals or agriculture.
