Description

Sodium dimethylbenzenesulfonate (CAS 1300-72-7) is an anionic surfactant and hydrotrope derived from xylene sulfonic acid, commercially available under trade names including Naxonate, Naxonate G, Naxonate 5L, Naxonate SX, and Conco SXS. It carries no assigned E-code and is commonly abbreviated as SDBS or SXS in formulation contexts.

In textile processing, it acts as a dispersing agent that keeps dye particles uniformly suspended in aqueous baths, improving dye uptake consistency. In industrial cleaning formulations, it functions as a hydrotrope, increasing the solubility of other surfactants and active ingredients in water-based systems, which allows higher-concentration liquid detergents to remain stable and pourable.

Sodium dimethylbenzenesulfonate is supplied as a white crystalline solid and in liquid solution grades, with the 40% and 93% active content grades being most common in European trade. The substance is registered under REACH and should be handled in accordance with current SDS documentation. Packaging typically includes drums and IBCs for bulk procurement.
