Description

Sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate (CAS 128-04-1, EC 204-876-7), commonly abbreviated as SDMC, is an organosulfur salt available under trade names including Thiostop N, Alcobam, and Brogdex 555. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 29302000.

In water treatment, SDMC functions as a biocide by binding to microbial enzyme systems through its dithiocarbamate group, disrupting cellular metabolism. In rubber processing, it acts as an accelerator catalyst, promoting vulcanization reactions at controlled rates. It is also applied in agricultural formulations as an antimicrobial agent targeting fungal and bacterial growth.

SDMC is supplied as a liquid solution or crystalline solid, with concentrations typically ranging from 40% aqueous solution to dry powder grades. The substance is registered under REACH and must be handled in accordance with applicable EU biocidal product regulations. Packaging is available in drums and IBC containers to suit industrial procurement volumes.
