Description

Sodium formaldehyde bisulfite (CAS 870-72-4, EC 212-800-9), also known as sodium hydroxymethylsulfonate or formaldehyde sodium bisulfite, is an inorganic salt formed from the addition of sodium bisulfite to formaldehyde. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially available under several trade designations across industrial markets.

In water treatment, it functions as a reducing agent and biocide, neutralising residual chlorine and inhibiting microbial growth in process water systems. In textile and leather processing, it acts as a fixative and reducing auxiliary, breaking disulfide bonds during fibre treatment. Pharmaceutical and personal care formulators use it as a preservative and antioxidant stabiliser in aqueous systems.

This product is supplied as a powder grade suitable for industrial and technical applications and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Union. Buyers should confirm grade specifications against intended application standards, including any relevant pharmacopoeial or food-contact compliance requirements. Standard packaging formats vary by supplier volume.
