Sodium hexametaphosphate

Sodium hexametaphosphate (CAS 10124-56-8), also known as Graham's Salt, sodium polyphosphate, or by the trade name Calgon, is an inorganic phosphate salt with the repeating formula (NaPO3)6. It carries no E-number designation and is distinct from food-grade sodium metaphosphate despite sharing common naming conventions.

In water treatment, it sequesters calcium and magnesium ions by forming stable chelate complexes, preventing scale formation in pipelines and boilers. In food and beverage processing, it functions as a buffering agent and protein modifier, improving moisture retention in processed meats and seafood. Textile and paper manufacturers use it to disperse minerals and control pH during pulping and dyeing operations.

Sodium hexametaphosphate is available in food-grade (FCC-compliant) and technical grades, supplied as a white granular solid. It falls under REACH registration requirements within the EU and is classified under HS code 2835390000. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities on request.
