Description

Sodium isethionate (CAS 1562-00-1, EC 216-343-6), also known as isethionic acid sodium salt or sodium hydroxyethylsulfonate, is an organosulfonate compound derived from isethionic acid. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially identified by the molecular formula C2H6O4S.Na.

In personal care formulations, sodium isethionate functions as a mild anionic surfactant and skin conditioner, improving foam quality and reducing irritation potential in syndet bars and cleansing products. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it serves as a buffering agent, stabilising pH in topical preparations, and contributes antimicrobial activity at controlled concentrations.

Sodium isethionate is supplied as a fine powder suitable for direct blending into solid and liquid formulations. It is available in cosmetic and pharmaceutical grades, with compliance documentation aligned to REACH regulations and relevant Ph.Eur. standards. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, with bulk options available on request.
