SIBX functions as a selective collector in froth flotation, adsorbing onto sulfide mineral surfaces to render them hydrophobic and separable from gangue. It is applied in the concentration of copper, lead, zinc, and nickel ores, where xanthate ion exchange with metal sulfide sites drives particle attachment to air bubbles. Dosage and pH control determine selectivity between target minerals and unwanted silicates.
