Description

Sodium lauroyl glutamate (CAS 29923-31-7) is an amino acid-based anionic surfactant derived from glutamic acid and lauric acid. It is commercially available under trade names including Amisoft LS-11 and Acylglutamate LS-11, and carries no assigned E-code. The sodium salt form is designated by the abbreviation LS-11 in industry documentation.

In personal care formulations, it functions as a mild cleansing agent by reducing interfacial tension between oils and water, making it suitable for facial cleansers and shampoos where skin compatibility is a priority. In food-contact and emulsification applications, it stabilises oil-in-water systems by adsorbing at the interface and preventing droplet coalescence.

Sodium lauroyl glutamate is supplied as a solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm supplier compliance with cosmetic ingredient regulations under EC 1223/2009 and verify food-grade certification where applicable to the intended end use.
