Description

Sodium metaborate (CAS 7775-19-1, EC 231-891-6) is an inorganic boron salt commonly identified by the formula NaBO2 and known under trade names including Kodalk and Borosoap. It carries no assigned E-code. It is registered under REACH and handled in accordance with applicable EU borate regulations.

In water treatment, sodium metaborate raises and stabilises pH through its alkaline buffering action, reducing corrosion in distribution systems. In textile and leather processing, it functions as a scouring and degreasing agent by saponifying fats and oils at elevated temperatures. Agricultural formulations use its biocidal properties to control fungi and algae in irrigation systems.

Sodium metaborate is available in anhydrous and hydrated grades, supplied as white lumps or granules. It is compliant with REACH registration requirements and subject to EU borate classification obligations. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities; technical-grade material is the primary commercial form.
