Sodium monofluorophosphate

Sodium monofluorophosphate (CAS 10163-15-2), commonly abbreviated as MFP and also known as disodium fluorophosphate, is an inorganic fluorine-containing salt supplied as a white crystalline powder. It carries no assigned E-code and is registered under EC number 233-433-0.

In oral care formulations, MFP delivers fluoride ions to tooth enamel through enzymatic hydrolysis, where phosphatases cleave the P-F bond to release free fluoride that remineralises hydroxyapatite. It is also incorporated into pharmaceutical antiseptic preparations and personal care products where controlled fluoride release provides antimicrobial and preservation activity.

Sodium monofluorophosphate is available in pharmaceutical and cosmetic grades, with quality benchmarks referenced against Ph.Eur. monographs and relevant pharmacopoeial standards.
