Description

Sodium monofluorophosphate (CAS 7631-97-2), commonly abbreviated as MFP, is an inorganic fluorine-containing salt available under trade names including Acorea, Monoflor, and MFP gel. It carries no assigned E-code and is distinct from sodium fluoride in its bonded fluorine structure, which affects both its bioavailability and formulation behaviour.

In oral care, MFP is the active anticaries agent in toothpastes and gels, releasing fluoride ions that remineralise enamel and inhibit bacterial acid production. It is also used in pharmaceutical fluoride supplements and professional dental varnishes, where controlled fluoride delivery is required at defined therapeutic concentrations.

MFP is supplied in pharmaceutical and cosmetic grades, with quality benchmarks referenced against Ph.Eur. and USP monographs. The substance is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. It is typically packaged in fibre drums or multi-layer bags, with documentation available to support cosmetic product notification and pharmaceutical dossier submissions.
