Description

Sodium propargylsulfonate (CAS 55947-46-1, EC 259-915-0) is an organosulfonate salt also known as propargyl sulfonate, sodium propynesulfonate, and sodium 2-propyne-1-sulfonate. It carries no assigned E-code. The compound combines a terminal alkyne group with a sulfonate moiety within a single molecule.

In electroplating and printed circuit board manufacturing, sodium propargylsulfonate acts as a brightener and leveling agent by adsorbing onto metal surfaces and modifying copper deposition kinetics. In polymer chemistry, the reactive alkyne group participates in controlled radical and click-chemistry polymerization routes, enabling surface functionalization of plastic substrates with sulfonate character.

Sodium propargylsulfonate is supplied as a colorless to light yellow aqueous liquid and is subject to REACH registration requirements for European procurement. Buyers should confirm supplier documentation including Safety Data Sheets and certificates of analysis. Standard packaging formats vary by supplier; quantities from laboratory scale to bulk IBC are typically available.
