Description

Sodium stannate (CAS 12058-66-1, EC 235-030-5) is an inorganic tin salt commonly referenced as Na2SnO3 or disodium stannate. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive. It is available under trade references including sodium tin oxide and tin sodium oxide.

In PVC and polymer stabilisation, sodium stannate acts as a heat stabiliser by neutralising hydrogen chloride released during thermal degradation, interrupting the dehydrochlorination chain reaction. In textile and paper processing, it functions as a mordant and buffering agent, maintaining alkaline pH conditions that improve dye fixation and fibre treatment consistency. It also serves as a catalyst in certain esterification and condensation reactions.

Sodium stannate is supplied in technical grade as white to light tan crystals and is registered under REACH for supply within the European Economic Area. Standard packaging includes fibre drums and multi-layer bags. Buyers should request a current Safety Data Sheet and confirm grade specification against their application requirements prior to procurement.
