Sodium tolyltriazole

Sodium tolyltriazole (CAS 64665-57-2, EC 265-004-9, formula C7H6N3Na) is the sodium salt of tolyltriazole, commonly supplied under trade names including Cobratec TT 85, Cobratec TT 50S, Wintrol T 50, and Wintrol T 50NA. It carries no assigned E-code and is also referred to by the abbreviation NaTT or TTA-Na in technical literature.

In water treatment systems, sodium tolyltriazole forms a stable coordination complex with copper and copper alloy surfaces, blocking electrochemical corrosion at concentrations typically between 10 and 100 ppm. In metalworking fluids and lubricants, it functions as a metal deactivator, chelating dissolved copper ions that would otherwise catalyse fluid degradation and stain non-ferrous components.

Sodium tolyltriazole is available in liquid concentrate grades (typically 50% active) and solid powder grades (85% active), corresponding to the 50S and 85 product designations.
