Description

Squalane (CAS 111-01-3) is a fully saturated hydrocarbon derived by hydrogenation of squalene, commercially available under trade names including Cosbiol and Robane. It carries no E-code designation and is classified under HS code 29012990.

In personal care formulations, squalane functions as an emollient and carrier by mimicking the lipid profile of human sebum, allowing active ingredients to penetrate the skin barrier without occlusion. In food and pharmaceutical applications, it serves as a flavour carrier and processing solvent, stabilising sensitive compounds through its chemically inert, non-oxidising structure.

Squalane is sourced from both plant-derived (sugarcane, olive) and synthetic routes, with grades available to FCC and Ph.Eur. standards for food and pharmaceutical use respectively. It is fully REACH-registered and supplied in drum and IBC formats to meet industrial procurement requirements.
