Description

Stearamide (CAS 124-26-5) is the fatty acid amide derived from stearic acid, supplied as light yellow granules under trade names including Adogen 42 and Amide C18. Also known as octadecamide or stearoylamide, it carries EC number 204-693-2 and molecular formula C18H37NO. It does not hold an E-code designation.

In plastics processing, stearamide functions as an internal and external lubricant, reducing friction between polymer chains and metal surfaces during extrusion and moulding. In personal care formulations, it acts as an emulsion stabiliser and hair conditioner by adsorbing onto surfaces to reduce interfacial tension and improve slip. Textile and paper manufacturers apply it as a surface-modifying agent to control wetting behaviour.

Stearamide is available in technical and cosmetic-grade forms and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm grade suitability against application-specific standards before ordering. Standard packaging formats include 25 kg bags and bulk quantities on request.
