Description

Stearyl palmitate (CAS 2598-99-4) is a fatty acid ester formed by the esterification of palmitic acid with stearyl alcohol, also known as octadecyl palmitate or octadecyl hexadecanoate and sold under trade names such as Purester 34. It carries no E-code designation and is classified within the oils, fats, and waxes category.

In personal care formulations, stearyl palmitate functions as an emollient and emulsifier, reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases to stabilise creams and lotions. In polymer processing and lubricant compounding, it acts as an internal plasticiser and boundary lubricant, reducing friction between polymer chains or metal surfaces under load.

Stearyl palmitate is supplied as a solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market entry. Procurement teams should confirm grade specifications against relevant cosmetic or industrial standards, as purity profiles vary between suppliers. Standard packaging formats include bags and fibre drums.
