Description
Strontium hydroxide (Sr(OH)2), also known as strontium dihydroxide or Strontium(II) hydroxide, is an inorganic alkali with CAS number 18480-07-4 and EC number 242-367-1. It carries no assigned E-code and is not used as a food additive. It dissociates fully in aqueous solution to release strontium cations and hydroxide ions.
In water treatment, strontium hydroxide raises solution pH through complete dissociation, neutralising acidic effluents without introducing chloride or sulphate counterions that could interfere with downstream processes. In electronics manufacturing, it serves as a precursor in the synthesis of strontium-based compounds used in ceramic capacitors and cathode-ray tube glass formulations.
Strontium hydroxide is supplied as anhydrous or monohydrate crystalline material, with grades conforming to REACH registration requirements for industrial supply within the EU. Standard packaging includes fibre drums and multi-layer bags; technical-grade material is available for industrial applications.
