Description

Succinic acid (CAS 110-15-6, E363) is a four-carbon dicarboxylic acid produced through fermentation or petrochemical synthesis, commercially known under names including Amber acid, Asuccin, and A 12084. It carries EC number 203-740-4 and the molecular formula C4H6O4.

In food and beverage manufacturing, succinic acid functions as an acidulant and flavour modifier, contributing a mild sour-saline taste profile that buffers pH in the range of 2.5–5.5. In pharmaceutical formulations, it acts as a buffering agent and catalyst in esterification reactions, while personal care chemists use it to regulate skin surface pH and support preservation systems.

Succinic acid is available in food-grade (E363, FCC), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.), and technical-grade forms, supplied as a white crystalline powder in 25 kg bags or bulk quantities. It is fully REACH-registered and compliant with EU food additive regulations under Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008.
