Description

Sulfolane (CAS 126-33-0, EC 204-783-1) is a cyclic sulfone solvent with the molecular formula C4H8O2S, also marketed under the trade name Sulfolan. It carries no E-code designation and is classified as an industrial-grade polar aprotic solvent with high thermal and chemical stability.

In gas processing, sulfolane selectively absorbs aromatic hydrocarbons and acid gases such as H2S and CO2 from natural gas streams, functioning as the active extraction medium in the Sulfinol and BTX recovery processes. In electronics manufacturing, it serves as a high-boiling process solvent for cleaning and etching applications where controlled solvation of polar compounds is required.

Sulfolane is supplied in technical and high-purity grades and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area. It is available in bulk liquid form, IBC containers, and drummed quantities. Buyers should confirm grade specifications and SDS documentation prior to procurement.
