Description
Taurine (CAS 107-35-7) is a naturally occurring sulfonic amino acid found in animal tissue and synthesised commercially for industrial use. It is also known under the trade names Taufon and Tauphon, and carries the FEMA designation 3813. It does not hold an E-number classification in the EU.
In energy drink and sports nutrition formulations, taurine acts as an intracellular osmolyte and pH buffer, stabilising cell membranes under metabolic stress. In personal care, it functions as a mild surfactant and skin conditioner by reducing interfacial tension and supporting moisture retention. Its antioxidant capacity also makes it relevant in ophthalmic pharmaceutical preparations.
Taurine is supplied as a white crystalline powder in food-grade (FCC), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.), and technical grades. It is fully REACH-registered and compliant with EU food additive regulations where applicable. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, with bulk options available on request.
