Tea polyphenol

Tea polyphenol (CAS 84650-60-2, EC 283-519-7) is a concentrated plant extract derived from Camellia sinensis leaves, standardised for its polyphenolic content, primarily catechins such as EGCG. It is commercially available under names including Green Tea P.E., Tea Extract, and Teagreenextrakt, and carries no assigned E-code in the EU.

In food and nutraceutical formulations, tea polyphenol functions as a natural antioxidant by scavenging free radicals and chelating pro-oxidant metal ions, extending shelf life in lipid-containing products. In personal care, it is incorporated into topical formulations where its catechin content helps neutralise oxidative stress at the skin surface.

Tea polyphenol is supplied as a solid extract in standardised grades defined by total polyphenol or EGCG content, typically ranging from 50% to 98%.
