Tert-Butyl peroxypivalate

Tert-Butyl peroxypivalate (CAS 927-07-1) is an organic peroxide initiator commercially available under trade names including Lupersol 11, Esperox 31M, and Trigonox 25/75. It belongs to the peroxyester class and is supplied as a solution, typically at 75% concentration in an aliphatic solvent.

In plastics and polymer manufacturing, tert-butyl peroxypivalate initiates free-radical polymerization of vinyl monomers such as PVC and acrylics by decomposing at relatively low temperatures (half-life of one hour at approximately 55°C) to generate reactive radicals. In rubber processing, it functions as a cross-linking agent, forming covalent bonds between polymer chains to improve mechanical and thermal performance.

This product is subject to REACH registration requirements and is classified under EU regulations governing organic peroxides. It is handled and transported under temperature-controlled conditions due to its self-accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT).
