Description
Thiabendazole (CAS 148-79-8), also known as TBZ, TBDZ, E233, and by trade names including DECCO and MK-360, is a benzimidazole-based fungicide and antiparasitic compound. It is approved as a food additive under E-number E233 within the European Union and is registered under REACH.
In post-harvest agriculture, thiabendazole controls fungal pathogens such as Penicillium and Fusarium on citrus and other fruits by inhibiting fungal cell division through tubulin binding. It also serves as a pharmaceutical intermediate in antiparasitic drug synthesis and functions as a catalyst in certain polyurethane and epoxy curing systems.
