Description

Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), also known as E171, Titanox, Rayox, and Rutile, is an inorganic white pigment with CAS number 13463-67-7. It is produced in two primary crystal forms, rutile and anatase, each offering distinct optical and photocatalytic properties suited to different industrial requirements.

In coatings and plastics, TiO2 functions as a high-refractive-index pigment that scatters visible light to deliver opacity and whiteness at low loading levels. In personal care formulations, it acts as a physical UV filter and skin protectant by reflecting and scattering UV radiation rather than absorbing it chemically. In food applications, it serves as a colorant under the E171 designation.

TiO2 is available in rutile and anatase grades, surface-treated or uncoated, and meets standards including Ph.Eur., FCC, and E171 food-grade specifications. It is registered under REACH and supplied as a dry powder in multi-layer bags or bulk. Buyers should note the evolving EU regulatory status of E171 in food applications.
