γ-Tocopherol

γ-Tocopherol (CAS 54-28-4) is a naturally occurring form of Vitamin E, distinguished from the more common α-tocopherol by its methylation pattern. Also known as d-γ-Tocopherol and classified under the broader tocopherols group, it carries no assigned E-code for standalone use but falls within the tocopherol family recognised in food and feed legislation.

In food and nutrition applications, γ-tocopherol functions as a lipid-phase antioxidant, scavenging peroxyl radicals to delay oxidative rancidity in oils and fat-containing formulations. In personal care, it protects emulsions and skin-conditioning agents from oxidative degradation while contributing moisturising activity through interaction with the skin barrier lipid matrix.

γ-Tocopherol is available in food-grade and cosmetic-grade specifications, with compliance references including FCC and Ph.Eur. standards for tocopherol preparations. The substance is registered under REACH and supplied in drum and IBC formats suited to industrial procurement volumes.
