Description

Toluene (CAS 108-88-3), also known as toluol, methylbenzol, methacide, and antisal 1a, is an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent derived primarily from petroleum refining and coal tar processing. It is commercially referenced under designations such as CP 25 and functions as a single-component solvent with a well-defined solvency profile.

In coatings and adhesives manufacturing, toluene dissolves nitrocellulose, epoxy resins, and synthetic rubbers by disrupting intermolecular forces within the polymer matrix, enabling controlled viscosity and film formation. In printing and packaging, it serves as a carrier solvent in gravure ink systems, regulating ink transfer and drying rates on high-speed presses.

Toluene is supplied in industrial and technical grades, with availability in drums, IBCs, and bulk tanker quantities. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU and classified under CLP regulations. Procurement teams should confirm grade specification and SDS documentation prior to ordering.
