Triheptanoin

Triheptanoin (CAS 620-67-7, EC 210-647-2) is a triglyceride ester composed of glycerol and three heptanoic acid chains, also known as trioenanthin or trienanthoin. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified within the oils, fats, and waxes category.

In pharmaceutical formulations, triheptanoin functions as a lipid carrier for poorly soluble active ingredients, improving bioavailability through enhanced solubilisation in lipid-based drug delivery systems. In personal care, it acts as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent, forming a non-occlusive film that reduces transepidermal water loss without heavy residue.

Triheptanoin is supplied as a colourless liquid suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications, with grades available to meet FCC and Ph.Eur. standards depending on end use.
