Description
Trimellitic anhydride (TMA, TMAN) is the cyclic anhydride of trimellitic acid, registered under CAS 552-30-7 and EC 209-008-0. It carries no E-code designation. The compound is also referenced in trade documentation as anhydrotrimellitic acid and AKOS BBS-00003778.
In plasticizer and polyester resin production, TMA reacts with polyols and amines to form high-performance trimellitate esters and polyimide precursors, where its three reactive sites enable controlled cross-linking and elevated thermal resistance. In coatings and powder coating systems, it functions as a curing agent for epoxy resins, improving chemical resistance and adhesion through covalent network formation.
Trimellitic anhydride is supplied as flakes and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU procurement. Buyers should confirm supplier SDS documentation and exposure classification, as the substance carries respiratory sensitisation designations under CLP. Standard industrial packaging applies; consult your supplier for available lot sizes and purity grades.
