Description

Triphenyl phosphate (TPP, TPPA) is an organophosphate compound registered under CAS 115-86-6 and EC 204-112-2, also marketed under trade names including Disflamoll TP, Phosflex TPP, and Altal. It carries no assigned E-code. It functions as both a flame retardant and plasticizer within a single molecule.

In cellulose acetate films and engineering plastics, TPP interrupts combustion by releasing phosphoric acid during thermal decomposition, which promotes char formation and limits flame spread. In hydraulic fluids and lubricant formulations, it reduces flammability while simultaneously improving viscosity stability and load-bearing performance at elevated temperatures.

TPP is supplied as a technical-grade crystalline flake product and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area. It is classified under HS code 29190010 for customs purposes. Procurement teams should confirm current SVHC candidate list status prior to specification, as regulatory review of organophosphate plasticizers remains active.
