Description

Urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP), also known by trade names Hyperol, Ortizon, Thenardol, Perhydrit, and Percarbamide, is a stable solid adduct of urea and hydrogen peroxide. It releases active oxygen upon dissolution, making it a dry, storable alternative to aqueous hydrogen peroxide solutions.

In cosmetic hair bleaching and textile processing, UHP delivers controlled oxidative action that breaks down chromophores in melanin or dye molecules, producing a whitening effect without the handling risks of liquid peroxide. In pharmaceutical and water treatment applications, it functions as a biocide by oxidising microbial cell membranes, disrupting cellular integrity at low concentrations.

UHP is available in technical and pharmaceutical grades, with Ph.Eur.-compliant material suitable for medicinal formulations. It falls under REACH registration requirements within the EU. Packaging is typically supplied in sealed polyethylene-lined drums or bags to prevent moisture-induced decomposition during storage and transport.
