Description

Vinyl neodecanoate (CAS 51000-52-3) is a vinyl ester monomer derived from neodecanoic acid, commercially available under trade names including VeoVa 10, VV 10, Shivena 10, and Exxar Neo 10. It carries no assigned E-code. The branched, tertiary carbon structure of the acid component distinguishes it from linear vinyl esters such as vinyl acetate.

In emulsion polymerisation, vinyl neodecanoate is copolymerised with vinyl acetate or acrylic monomers to produce latex binders for exterior architectural coatings, where the bulky neodecanoate group reduces hydrolytic sensitivity and improves weathering resistance. It also functions as a reactive comonomer in pressure-sensitive adhesives, where its steric bulk lowers glass transition temperature and controls tack.

Vinyl neodecanoate is supplied as a technical-grade liquid and falls under REACH registration requirements for EU import and use. Suppliers typically offer it in drums and IBC containers. Buyers should request a current Safety Data Sheet and confirm REACH compliance documentation before procurement.
