Description

Vinylsulfonic acid (CAS 1184-84-5, EC 214-676-1) is a strong acid monomer commercially available under the abbreviations VSA-H and VSA-S. It carries no assigned E-code. The compound belongs to the sulfonic acid monomer class and is handled as a clear liquid under standard conditions.

In water treatment, vinylsulfonic acid is copolymerized with acrylic acid or acrylamide to produce scale-inhibiting polymers that bind calcium and metal ions at pipe surfaces. In textile and paper processing, it is incorporated into coating formulations where its sulfonate groups improve substrate wetting and surface charge density without requiring additional surfactants.

Vinylsulfonic acid is supplied as an aqueous solution in standard concentrations and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area. Procurement quantities are available in drum and IBC formats. Buyers should request a current Safety Data Sheet and confirm grade specification prior to ordering.
