In polymer and coating systems, VTES functions as a crosslinker by reacting with moisture to form silanol groups that condense with hydroxyl-bearing substrates, creating durable covalent bonds between organic matrices and inorganic surfaces. In wire and cable insulation, it enables moisture-cure crosslinking of polyethylene, improving thermal and mechanical resistance without peroxide processing.
