Description
Vinyltrimethoxysilane (CAS 2768-02-7) is an organosilane monomer commercially known as VTMO, A-171, and VTS-M. It carries no E-code designation. The molecule combines a reactive vinyl group with three hydrolysable methoxy groups, giving it dual organic-inorganic reactivity.
In polyolefin cable insulation, VTMO grafts onto polymer chains and then moisture-cures to form siloxane crosslinks, replacing peroxide cure systems. In coatings and adhesive primers, the methoxy groups hydrolyse and condense onto mineral or glass substrates, creating covalent bonds that resist delamination under humid conditions.
VTMO is supplied as a neat liquid and falls under REACH regulation (EC 220-449-8), requiring an up-to-date Safety Data Sheet for EU trade. It carries HS code 29310095 for customs classification.
