Zinc borate

In polymer and elastomer compounding, zinc borate acts as a flame retardant synergist by releasing water at elevated temperatures and forming a glassy char barrier that restricts oxygen access and slows combustion. It is also used in intumescent coatings and fire-resistant textiles, where it reinforces char structure and suppresses afterglow in halogen-free and halogenated systems alike.
