Zinc formaldehyde sulfoxylate (CAS 24887-06-7, EC 246-515-6) is an inorganic reducing salt commercially available under trade names including Safolin, Hydrozin, Redol ZB, and Parolite, and commonly abbreviated as ZFS. In textile and leather processing, ZFS functions as a reductive bleaching agent by donating electrons to break chromophore bonds in dyes and pigments, effectively stripping unwanted colour from fibres or hides. In pulp and paper manufacturing, it serves as an antioxidant stabiliser, inhibiting oxidative degradation of cellulose during processing and improving final sheet brightness.
